BRADY TOUGHJET(TM) B-146 WHITE MATTE INKJET POLYESTER

TDS No. B-146
Effective Date: 20-Dec-2011

Description:

GENERAL

Print Technology:  Inkjet (also printable by laser and dot matrix)

Material Type:  White polyester

Finish:  Matte

Adhesive:  Removable acrylic

APPLICATIONS

General high-performance labels, signs, and manufacturing process identification.  Lean and safety and facility identification such as TPM, visual workplace, and 5S labeling.

INK RECOMMENDATIONS

In order to achieve the high solvent resistance and image quality of which Brady B-146 is capable, pigment inkjet inks must be used.  The highest recommendation for an inkjet ink set is Epson DURABrite Ultra®.  Other recommended ink sets are Epson UltraChrome®, Canon PGI-9, Kodak 10 series cartridges, and Hewlett-Packard cartridge 38.

Image quality, solvent resistance, and water resistance will decrease substantially if dye-based inkjet inks are used.

Image quality and durability will vary when printed with laser printers.

SURFACE PREPARATION

In order to achieve strong adhesion of Brady B-146 to a surface, it may be necessary to clean the surface to remove oil, dust, or debris.

REGULATORY APPROVALS

Brady B-146 is RoHS compliant to 2005/618/EC MCV amendment to RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Brady B-146 is designed to provide durable color inkjet alphanumeric text, photos, and graphics.  It has good abrasion resistance, excellent solvent and water resistance when printed with recommended inkjet inks, and has sufficient ink absorption capacity for the creation of process color graphics.  It is printable with inkjet, laser, and dot matrix printers.

STAIN RESISTANCE

All inkjet-receptive coatings are designed to absorb liquid inks.  After printing they still retain the capability to absorb other liquids.  This product may be stained by the absorption of colored liquids, but in most cases the printed information will remain legible.  To prevent staining a pressure-sensitive laminate or a sealant coating may be applied.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:  Samples were printed with color blocks of Epson DURABrite Ultra® inkjet inks, laminated to aluminum panels, and allowed to dwell 24 hours prior to testing. Testing was conducted at room temperature and consisted of five cycles of 10 minute immersions in the specified test fluid followed by 30 minutes of dwell time in air. After the final immersion, the samples were removed from the test fluid and the printed image rubbed 10 times with a cotton swab saturated with the test fluid.
